Where road chaos began

With reference to road charges, yet again the motorist has to pay for the incompetent governments.

We have had to suffer over the last 40 to 50 years.

This mess started when someone in the government decided people in towns close to factories were damaging their health so it was decided, without any thought about what happened in the future, to move the factories into the green belt.

At this time people travelled only a few miles to work. Some walked, keeping the boot manufacturers happy, some travelled by trolley bus. All three were pollution-free.

Then came the problem. Some factories supplied transport, some did not. Some people decided to stay put, which resulted in too many chasing the same job. Some cycled to work. Some bought a car and started the mess you see today.

Some might say we would still have traffic on the road. Yes, but my argument is less commuter traffic.

I am forgetting Birmingham moved people onto new estates close to their jobs. An example is Telford. To think this country 50 years ago led the world in technology. To think we have come to this organised chaos.
