Rail passengers scanned
A police operation aimed at reducing knife-related crime on the railways has been staged at Lichfield City station. British Transport Police joined with Staffordshire Police for Operation Shield.
Commuters and passengers walked through metal detectors similar to those used in airports.
Officers were on hand to arrest anyone found in possession of knives or offensive weapons.
Results of the operation have yet to be released.
The operation ran for around three hours and was staged following recent problems of anti-social behaviour in the Lichfield area.
The last Operation Shield to be staged at the station, in April, saw three arrests for possession of drugs, one street warning for possession of cannabis and one arrest for possession of a dangerous weapon.
Since the launch of the scheme last year more than 60,000 people have been through the scanners.
More than 130 people have been arrested for possession of knives or other weapons, and around 300 weapons recovered by officers.
