A Black Country dad has been killed after a beer barrel exploded in his face, breaking his neck.

Ricky Bunn, of Darlaston, died instantly following the freak accident.

It took place at the The Gateway To India pub in Soho Road, Handsworth, Birmingham.

The 32-year-old father of two had been working for a friend unloading beer barrels at the pub when the tragedy occurred. An inquest into his death has been opened and adjourned.

His funeral takes place at West Bromwich Crematorium tomorrow at 9.30am.

His mother Christine today told the Express & Star how the whole family were trying to rebuild their lives following his death on the afternoon of May 24.

Mrs Bunn said: "We were told the beer barrel was faulty and exploded in his face breaking his neck. The one saving grace is that he died instantly."

He was a director in his mother's business, Community Home Care Services, which cares for the elderly.

The reformed heroin addict was trying to rebuild his life with girlfriend Ellen Butler. He has two sons, Ricky aged 14, and 18 month old Mitchell. Mr Bunn, of Lodge Road, was a motorbikes fan.

The service will not be religious, but will celebrate his life. Any donations to drugs support group Addaction.
