Retired Cannock miner Jim Ingram was today accused of murdering his estranged wife Diane, when he appeared before magistrates.

The 62-year-old spoke only to confirm his name and address when he appeared before a bench at Cannock Magistrates Court to face the allegation this morning.

Ingram, of Don Grove, was charged with murder yesterday afternoon by detectives who questioned him for almost 24 hours.

His case was committed to Stafford Crown Court for a hearing on June 15 and he was remanded in custody.

Mr Ingram, full Christian names are Harold James, wore a blue open-necked shirt and walked with a stoop, had been held at Cannock police station since his arrest shortly after 11am on Monday in Derby city centre.

Grandmother Mrs Ingram, 61, who had four sons, was found with multiple stab wounds at her ground floor flat in Avon Road, Cannock, shortly after 5pm on March 13.

The couple had been married for over 40 years but Diane left their marital home 18 months before she was found dead.
