Suspect reads up on murder

Cannock murder suspect Jim Ingram has been caught on CCTV cameras in the county reading about his wife's killing.

The 62-year-old has been spotted on film twice since his wife Diane was found stabbed to death at her Avon Road home.

Police have also revealed today the Cannock grandmother was found dead the day before she was due to receive a £100,000 settlement from her husband who is now suspected of killing her.

But the 61-year-old mother of four was found dead on March 13 with a single stab wound to the neck.

Her estranged husband Jim had not been seen since the day of her death but police have now had their first confirmed sightings of the former miner in Shrewsbury town centre, on Monday April 16, where he was seen walking with two plastic bags at around 4.40pm.

Two days later he was seen getting on a bus in Lichfield city centre, on Wednesday April 18, at around 2.15pm. He got off the bus an hour later in Burton upon Trent.

In one of the CCTV images of Mr Ingram, who is sitting at the back of the bus, can be seen reading a copy of the Cannock Express & Star which featured a front page picture of Diane and a story about her murder.

Police have yet to find Mr Ingram and have renewed their appeal for information from the public.

Detectives now believe he could be living a "hand to mouth" existence and could be working on cash-in-hand jobs.

Detective Inspector Ronnie Walker said: "Jim Ingram is not someone given to creature comforts.

He could survive quite easily with basic food and a roof over his head.

"He is a loner who could fade into the background quite anonymously. It may be that you have employed him, walked passed him or spoken to him several times and not realised who he is. You may have given him a lift, or seen him in the library or park or on the bus."

Mr Ingram does not drive but uses buses extensively. He frequents libraries, parks and cheap/discounted pubs and is a creature of habit who police say led a frugal, self-sufficient life before the murder.

He is usually seen with two plastic bags – one of which is a distinctive grey Marks & Spencer carrier bag with "seriously chilled re-usable cool bag" on the side.

He is white, around 5ft 7ins tall and of medium build. He walks with a distinctive stoop and has unkempt short, greying brown hair. He may be wearing a dark blue waist-length padded jacket with diagonal light-coloured strips on the upper right arm, or a blue denim jacket, and blue jeans.

Mr Ingram is not thought to pose a danger to the public but anyone who sees him should not approach him and should dial 999 immediately.
