Concern for pedestrians

With reference to the Cllr Henderson's request for sympathy for the residents of Stourport with regard to their traffic problems, (May 24), I cannot see what this has to do with Bewdley, whose councillors are seeking views on the siting of a footbridge over the river Severn, as they are two separate problems.

With reference to the Cllr Henderson's request for sympathy for the residents of Stourport with regard to their traffic problems, (May 24), I cannot see what this has to do with Bewdley, whose councillors are seeking views on the siting of a footbridge over the river Severn, as they are two separate problems.

Our concern is for the safety of pedestrians, especially schoolchildren who cross the river to go to school, as the footpath on our bridge is narrow.

With regard to our bypass, this has been a great help in diverting vehicles around our town, however, despite a weight limit, many large vehicles have to drive through the town to make deliveries and to gain access to the Highley Road.

Having said that, as I work in Stourport and suffer from the traffic congestion most nights, the people of Stourport do have my sympathy and if I had been elected to serve them during the recent council elections my main aim would have been to campaign for a relief road and a second bridge for the town.

Paul Gittins, Bewdley Town Councillor, Lyttleton Road, Bewdley.
