Young teams in soccer finals
Primary school pupils from across Shropshire turned out in force at Gay Meadow for the finals of Shropshire Schools and Colleges FA competitions.
Organisers said the event was the highlight of the year for them and gave more than 180 boys and girls the chance to play on the Shrewsbury Town pitch before the club moves to a new ground for the start of next season.
A packed stand of families and friends watched the youngsters take to the pitch for what was the culmination of the football season for Shropshire's primary schools.
There were nine closely fought finals during a full day of match action.
Sir Alexander Fleming and St George's School from Shrewsbury shared the under 11 Girls County Plate after a 0-0 draw.
Harlescott lifted the under 11 Boys County Plate after they beat Windmill 2-0, while the under 10 Boys County Trophy also went to Harlescott who triumphed again over Windmill 1-0.
The under 10 Girls County Trophy was shared between Sir Alexander Fleming and Whitchurch who drew 1-1.
The under 11 Millennium Trophy was also shared after Aqueduct and Donnington Wood played out a 1-1 draw.
In the Shrewsbury Girls Challenge Cup Harlescott took the spoils, beating Belvidere 1-0, while Longmeadow lifted the Kerison Jones Cup after a 2-1 victory also against Belvidere.
The Severn Cup was shared between Coleham and St George's who ended the game in a 0-0 stalemate.
Radbrook claimed the last trophy of the day with a narrow 1-0 win against St George's in the final of the Phil Lewis Trophy.
Alan Jones, from Shropshire Schools and Colleges FA, said: "It has been a fantastic day. It is the highlight of the season for us.
"These are all county children though and the biggest cheer of the afternoon went up when the result was announced that Shrewsbury Town had beaten Hereford."
