The evening of festivities has been put together to bring organisations, groups and volunteers together to raise awareness of the day, and the issues affecting women both locally and globally.

It will be staged next Wednesday from 7pm to 9pm at the Guildhall, in Bore Street.

Refreshments, a storyteller, a variety of stalls and a DJ playing music through the ages are among the attractions.

There will also be the chance to see how many blankets were created through the Knit and Natter sessions held all over the district.

The event has been organised by the International Women's Day Working Group, which consists of several groups.

The winners of a photography competition will also be announced at the event. The competition asked women to take photos on the theme "What being a woman means to you".

Maggi Huckfield, from Staffordshire Youth Services, said: "Do join us in what will be an eclectic evening of many talented women coming together to share their achievements."

Jess Rice, North Lichfield Initiative volunteer, said: "We had lots of fun organising this event, and hope that plenty of people come along and support us and the charities we are fundraising for."

Admission is 50p, which will be donated to charity. It is open to everyone, but youngsters under 11 must be supervised by an adult.
