Now tell us something new
I operate a business based on the Planetary Road Industrial Estate, Willenhall, and as usual looked at my post. Included was a large brown envelope addressed to the "Business Owner" followed by the address.
I operate a business based on the Planetary Road Industrial Estate, Willenhall, and as usual looked at my post. Included was a large brown envelope addressed to the "Business Owner" followed by the address.Inside the envelope was a folder which contained 20 separate leaflets, including nine of the same type. Both the folder and brochures are professionally printed and the envelope itself cost 63p to post. The printing on the folder is "Wolverhampton Going Smoke Free".
In addition to this literature the subject is receiving widespread media coverage and I would think there is hardly a person in this country who is not aware that smoking in the workplace and all indoor places, with the exception of private homes, will become illegal in July.
Our council, in it's wisdom, sees fit to embark on a separate and hugely expensive exercise to tell us what we already know.
This is not the first communication we have received on the subject from the council and the postage costs alone, as I would assume several thousand of these folders have been issued, will run into many thousands.
In addition there is the cost of setting up a website on the same subject and employing people who are responsible for designing and administering this exercise. Perhaps the council can inform us exactly what has been spent.
At a time when wards are being closed in hospitals and care for the mentally ill is being reduced I find it immoral that our council can waste taxpayers' money on this needless exercise.
The National Audit Office should investigate this matter with urgency and ensure that no more public money is wasted.
