There can be no substitute for a wealth of experience and a bank of knowledge. If so-called "chiefs", as mentioned in your paper, choose to deselect their leader then their corporate intelligence has to be called into question.

Your newspaper reports about Sir Patrick's achievements show the magnitude of his impact upon the local political scene. If one plays the ageism card then the balance of the team becomes biased and less effective.

The best results are always gained by calling upon the views of the people of all ages; this mixes youth with experience.

No one can call Sir Patrick's integrity into question and to be treated in such a dumb way after being so truthful and hard working must cause him and his family to suffer a great deal of anguish.

There is nothing worse than the proverbial stab in the back from individuals one thought had a common cause. Unfortunately, it is one of the drawbacks of democracy when some politicians seeks to cause instability of the ship.

So should the selection process not be resolved positively in favour of Sir Patrick then I hope he chooses to stand as an independent candidate. He will certainly have my vote and those of many thousands who are appreciative of so much honest work carried out.

Thank you Sir Patrick for all that you have done and may your opponents, who act in secret, live to rue their actions.
