Catalogue of misrule

It is frankly incredible that we now have the irrepressible PM Blair boasting that the last 18 months have been his most productive in office.

Published

His apparent grip on reality seems to be failing fast, but we also learn that as a result of his continuing fantasy, he may be allowed to remain in office until June or July!

As his authority as a leader over his Cabinet can be seen to be visibly crumbling around him, it seems appropriate to remind ourselves what some of his actual successes since 2005 really are:

Ongoing police investigation into the legalities of his Cash for Peerages policy;

Home Office chaos over jail overcrowding, release of dangerous and foreign prisoners and the government's sentencing policy in tatters;

Failure of checks on paedophiles to work with children; Prescott, deputy PM, ridiculed over his affair with Tracey Temple; Daily escalating numbers of soldiers being killed in Iraq and Afganistan;

Cabinet refusal to amend legislation over gay rights; No way out of the Middle East crisis in sight; Inflation and interest rates increasing daily; Dozens of hospitals to close, in a bid to control soaring NHS debts;

PM gave up billions of pounds of EU rebate (the result of hard negotiation by Mrs Thatcher) to Brussels in return for no advantage whatsoever; Immigration policy and control of our borders, non-existent.

It is difficult to see how this country will ever properly be able to recover from ten years of Labour incompetency and misrule.

They have deliberately set out to undermine many of our prized and internationally famous institutions, including the much envied independence of our civil service.

It would be a relief to see someone half competent take over the premiership, unfortunately Gordon Brown appears to be all they have! Roll on the next General Election!
