Calls for over-60s 'village'
People under 60 could be banned from living on a Tipton estate as part of plans to turn it into an "elderly people's village".
The minimum age requirement on the Boscobel Estate is already 50, but residents have lodged a petition with Sandwell council chiefs to raise it to 60 for newcomers.
The group says it wants to alter the rules in line with other similar estates across the country.
The residents argue that they are all are of a similar age group and so can offer help and support with a range of issues. The estate would also be quieter without families moving in.
John Nicklin, chairman of the Boscobel Estate Community Association, said: "The proposals will help us build on the successes.
"We have made steady progress towards establishing a concept of an elderly estate where residents already enjoy some of the benefits of working to identify and provide local solutions to local issues.
"This is a thriving elderly people's village and we want to build on that."
