All licensees in the west of the city, a total of 59, have volunteered to close until later in the day amid fears of drink-fuelled violence.

Cardiff fans have been banned from the game following ugly scenes at Molineux last year and the previous season.

But up to 150 have been given permission to protest the decision in St Peter's Square between 9am and 10am on the day.Sgt Sallie Churchill, of Bilston Street police, said: "If we find any pubs are open, the inspector has the power to close them if we fear trouble.

"All the licensees have wanted to co-operate because there is the fear that a pub will be targeted and vandalised."

Off-licences have pledged that they will not serve drunks or football supporters.

Cardiff fans say they will fly an airship over the ground during the game.

Meanwhile, one Wolves fan says he has been barred from the game because the club think he may be a Cardiff supporter.
