The £12.3 million project features aircraft such as the UK's former V-bombers, armoured fighting vehicles, a section of the Berlin Wall and much more.

The nation's first exhibition dedicated to the era will house a dozen aircraft that played a role in military operations between 1945 and the late 1980s.

And it tells both sides of the Iron Curtain story, explaining the tensions that tormented the great super powers for a major part of the 20th century.

Bosses expect to welcome 50,000 more visitors a year than the 150,000 who already visit the present museum.

But people will have to wait a month to see the latest attraction, which opens to the public on February 8.

In February last year, then Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon visited the site to see a model of the extension with Dr Michael Fopp, director general of the RAF Museum at Cosford.

The project received funding from Advantage West Midlands, the Government Office for the West Midlands, Bridgnorth District Council, Heritage Lottery Fund, the Ministry of Defence and the Rural Regeneration Zone, as well as the RAF Museum.
