Warn us about noise in advance

I've had it up to here with workmen in Meyrick Road. New houses have been built, and the main contractors Lovells have dealt as swiftly and reasonably as possible with any problems we've experienced with noise, dust, disturbance etc.

However, at just after 8am today, two workmen knocked on our door to ask us to move my husband's work van.

We're not unreasonable people, and we understand holes must be dug by utility companies.

However, it would not be unreasonable to expect utility companies to request residents to move vehicles the day before, and to give advance written notice of noise.

It's now 8.30am, and the pavement is being dug up with pneumatic drills right outside my house.

There are two unmarked work vehicles, so I have no idea which company is responsible for this disturbance.

I am fortunate because I'm going to work but my neighbour is retired and semi-housebound, and another neighbour works nights.

More houses are being built in other parts of Meyrick Road and Bells Moor Road, so this nuisance hasn't finished yet.

Can anything be done to compel utility companies to give advance warning of disturbance?
