Townswomen's Guild national chairman Pamela Pollock found her headgear at risk of disappearing into the grounds of the Cathedral as she left the organisation's Christmas carol service.

The Princess Royal however, was well wrapped up against the cold as she joined 1,000 guild members from across the country in her role as patron.

Once inside the cathedral Princess Anne met the Bishop of Lichfield, the Rt Revd Jonathan Gledhill; the Dean of Lichfield, the Very Rev Adrian Dorber and members of the Chapter of Lichfield Cathedral.

Canon Charles Taylor, precentor at the cathedral, had written the service and said the Princess' visit was another exciting moment in the cathedral's busy season.

The Princess also visited HMP and YOI Swinfen Hall whilst in Staffordshire.
