Pc Geoff King was discharged from hospital last night just under a week after suffering bullet wounds to his shoulder and arm.

The officer, who has a young daughter, was flooded with best wishes from the public and colleagues as he recovered in hospital following the shooting last Saturday.

The drama caused chaos around the Penn Road on Saturday night and Sunday, with Waitrose and KFC shut for a day while a police search went on.

Pc King and colleague Pc Karl Ansell had driven to Bromford Rise, Penn Fields, when they spotted a man acting suspiciously at around 10.30pm.

Marcus Bailey, aged 25, appeared in court earlier this week accused of the attempted murder of Pc King as well as possession of a silver Magnum revolver with intent to endanger life and resist arrest and possession of a lock knife.

The case was sent to Wolverhampton Crown Court for a hearing on February 7.
