Brownhills residents who successfully fought the plans for a casino near their homes are up in arms after discovering the same firm is behind this new bid.

Mirage Leisure bosses have applied to Walsall Magistrates for a gaming licence allowing them to operate a bingo hall based in Silver Street, Brownhills.

No planning application has been submitted to Walsall Council asking for permission to build the club although councillors and residents suspect the company bosses are waiting to discover whether they are granted the licence first.

Families living on the Watermead Grange estate, next to the proposed site, have not been individually consulted about the plans although notices have been put up around Brownhills.

No-one from Mirage Leisure was available to comment today.

Brownhills Councillor Barbara Cassidy said: "A bingo hall is probably not the worst thing we could have on this site. But I would prefer something which is more geared towards families," she added.

Magistrates are expected to hear the gaming licence application in January.
