So proud of rockers
On behalf of Lozz Hipkiss, of Rooster Studios, and myself I would like to thank all the people who gave up their time to make sure the "Kids Rock the Barlow" show at the Barlow Playhouse, Langley, went off so well on October 7.
To Jon Pye, Ian Dickenson and Ian Hogan from the respective schools, to Pam and Lozz's mother and father-in-law for looking after the box office, to John Upton and all the staff at the Barlow who were magnificent, a massive big thanks.
Most of all let's thanks these incredibly talented kids. Lozz and I stood in the theatre and were totally amazed at the talent - wonderful songs, wonderful voices, amazing playing.
I didn't count but there must have been close on 30-plus musicians and singers that performed and we heard rap, rock (very loud!), west coast, indie and punk, and clearly these students love what they are doing.
Too often the majority are labelled because of the minority. Saturday showed that if people take enough time to show these kids that someone is interested in what they have to say and treat them like adults, then they respond in a positive way and the concert was a testament to their energy, creativity and passion for life.
Lozz and I hope this is just the first of these ventures as their must be other schools in the region who have just as much talent ready to be unearthed. If any teachers want to discuss such ventures, contact us by email or phone on 01384 265378 (Billy) or 01384 231013 (Lozz).
