I've no faith in buses or trains
Travelling back from London by train, we stopped just before arriving at Banbury for about 15 minutes for no apparent reason. We were eventually told we would be returning to the previous station, as an incident had occurred on the track further ahead and we would be unable to continue our journey.
When we arrived back at the station no instructions were given as to whether we should get off or remain where we were, but a number of seasoned travellers seemed to be quite used to this sort of happening and got off the train.
One and half hours later we were told coaches would be transferring us to Banbury in 30 minutes' time. Less than two minutes later we were told to get on a train standing at the station to continue our journey. Talk about confused!
The following Tuesday evening when I arrived at the bus stop after work a very frustrated lady was pacing up and down. She had been waiting 45 minutes for a bus that should be a regular 20-minute service.
After ten more minutes it finally arrived.
On the Wednesday evening I arrived at the same bus stop to find another very frustrated lady who had also been waiting 45 minutes for a bus. She had been to visit her elderly mother and was now trying to get to her son's to babysit her grandchildren while he went to an important meeting. Because she was so concerned she phoned her husband and asked him to catch the bus from their home to the sons as this would be quicker. She and I stood another 30 minutes and then her husband rang to say that he was still waiting for a bus and would not get there in time either!
On the Thursday I went to a funeral and agreed to catch the bus back to save my husband bringing the car out. I arrived at the bus stop at 22 minutes to the hour and read on the timetable that the bus was due at 15 minutes to the hour and 15 minutes past. Guess what - at 30 minutes past the hour I rang my husband to come and fetch me.
It is no wonder that people who have a choice do not choose public transport. They will never convince people to use it unless they improve the services.
