Whose turn is it to be rubbished?
In August last year I wrote to the Letters page regarding the emptying of dustbins on Bank Holidays. Wolverhampton's Labour council stated that workmen had Christmas week (Christmas to New Year) off and then worked all other Bank Holidays throughout the year.
This was perfectly acceptable to most people.Later, the council said the emptying of bins on Bank Holidays, other than over the Christmas period, was completely voluntary and workers could please themselves. This cannot be acceptable as who knows who will work and what areas will be covered.
This Bank Holiday Monday it seems full crews were out emptying bins but because of the admitted confusion, few bins were put out, especially in the Bushbury and Underhill areas. Council officials admitted there was confusion but went on to say "no excess bags of waste will be collected next week".
Typical of Labour, Cllr Bilson blamed the confusion on people not seeing it in the paper. What about the people returning from holidays? It could not possibly be any fault of the council. Which paper? Which night?
How can we have any confidence in this council when they cannot organise the emptying of the city's dustbins not just this year but year after year - and when they admit there was confusion and lack of information, walk away from the problem by saying, no excess bags of waste will be collected next week.
Is it totally beyond this Labour council to set up a rota so that we can take it in turns to be rubbished?
