My Peugeot no problem

Re your disappointment with Peugeot (August 18). This is most unusual and has certainly not been my experience. I hope the manufacturer has been made fully aware of the problems encountered.

The startling headline "Perils of owning a motoring mistake" doesn't match the 20,000 miles-plus in my current 407SV 136bhp model plus the 100,000 miles in the 405 and 406 previously (all diesels).

The now defunct Longbridge operation was fitting Peugeot diesel engines as long ago as the early 1990s and your reference to "fat cat" Beamers (BMW) as more suitable to your TV masters was probably because they knew of the current link-up between Peugeot and BMW for the development of their new range of diesel engines and there could be some spin-off for both brands.

However I am prompted to ask the following question. Who said this particular model put you in the category of "a boring middle-aged man"?

Finally I know of no Peugeot diesel that does 0-60 in half an hour. If this was purely a facetious remark then it should be withdrawn immediately.
