History of deaf centre

I hope you can help me. My name is Ruth Craddock and I work at Walsall Deaf People's Centre, at 59a Lichfield Street. Over the past year I have been researching the history of the centre. I made fantastic progress concerning the history of the deaf centre and the deaf community in the Black Country and its surrounding areas.

I also decided to research the history of our building in Lichfield Street. I understand that in the 20th Century the Eyland family lived here. The Eylands were well known for their local business of buckle and spectacle making. Furthermore Charles Eyland was Mayor of Walsall in 1857 and 1858.

However the information I have on the family and our building is limited. I have no idea when 59a Lichfield Street was built or what became of the Eyland family. I wondered if any of your readers might have any memories of the Eyland family or maybe of Walsall Deaf People's Centre, previously known as the Church Mission for the Deaf and Dumb in Staffordshire.

I look forward to hearing from you. Many Thanks
