University educated Steve Lindon has been looking for work across the West Midlands armed with a 6ft tall billboard imploring: "Give me a job."

Dressed smartly in dark suit, white shirt and tie, the enterprising 49-year-old set out his stall at Pendeford Business Park on Tuesday.

He spent two-and-a-half hours there clutching the eye-catching £70 roller banner before packing it up and heading for a new pitch in the city centre.

"You've got to do something different to stand out from the crowd, " he said.

The father of three, was made redundant from his last paid job as a Bonds administrator with Legal & General 19 months ago.

"I have applied for hundreds of jobs and knew I had to break that cycle if I wanted to get noticed.

"I was nervous when I started today but the reaction has been very encouraging.

"I have done everything from sweeping floors to managing an office and will consider any offer but ideally I am looking for office work."

Steve took his billboard out in Birmingham City Centre today, standing outside St Philip's Cathedral during the lunch hour hoping to catch the attention of office workers and bosses during their breaks.

He will also be attending a further networking event this evening.

Steve said: "There is so much competition out there now and there are that many people applying for jobs that you need to try and do something to stand out from the crowd."

Steve speaks to Dave Harte about his innovative job search in Birmingham today.
