Walkers and cyclists have got into the Christmas spirit by each adding their own baubles to a tree in a nature reserve for all to enjoy.

Mia Clark and her grandchildren Hardy, 13, and Mimi Baldwin, 10, placed six baubles on a tree on Smestow Nature Reserve, by Aldersley railway bridge, at the start of December along with a sign encouraging others to do so.

Now weeks later, more than 100 colourful baubles have been placed on the tree, some home made.

Ms Clark, a retired teacher, said: "In early December we were walking along the railway walk with our grandchildren and we decided we'd take some baubles and we put them in a tree.

"We thought it was a lovely idea so we made a sign saying 'A bauble a day keeps the grey away' then when we went back a few days later some more people had added some and every time we go there are more and more.

Decorations on the tree

"We thought it was fantastic. We've had messages from people saying it really cheers up their dog walking and people have been leaving their own home made decorations which are just so fabulous.

"We walk most days down that walk and we see lots of walkers and cyclists stop to look, it's just lovely."
