YouTube stars' fundraiser supports young Alfie and family
A kind-hearted football coach is raising funds to support a young boy with cancer.
Mike Mycroft, from Willenhall who coaches Lane Head Girls FC and Lane Head FC, has already raised more than £2,500 for Alfie Hinks aged 10 from Coppice Farm in Wednesfield.
Alfie was diagnosed with a Medullablastoma brain tumour in September 2019.
He survived a life saving nine hour operation to remove the tumour, a four hour operation for a shunt and a further two hour operation to repair the shunt.
He has since undergone numerous chemotherapy, radiotherapy and transfusions, with more procedures yet to come.
Following Alfie's surgery he has had to learn to walk, talk and learn everything again, supported by the rehabilitation team at Birmingham Children's Hospital.
After meeting Alfie, Mike was inspired to raise money for him and his family.
Mike said: "I met him for a one to one session where Alfie met my French bulldog puppy, he absolutely loved him and had a great reaction, he started wanting to talk and move more.
"I though it would be great to raise the money for the family to get their own puppy without the financial burden. All of the money raised is to help support the family."
As part of the fundraiser Mike, friend Phil Corns, walked from Ashmore to the Molineux and back armed with collection buckets and pushed Alfie in his wheelchair.
They were joined by supporters on the way who cheered them on including people dressed up as Spiderman and Marvel superheroes.
Alfie even got a special visit from YouTuber KSI and S-X.
The youngster's family has also raised more than £10,000 for Birmingham Children's Hospital.
Mike said: "I insisted we help them this time. Alfie and his family had to make massive sacrifices after the devastating news and since have raised thousands and thousands in Alfie's name with their friends and families help and gave all the money raised to charity.
"I’m determined to help Alfie get something he really wanted, I’ve never met a little boy like him the bravery him and his family shown since the beginning of this nightmare is unbelievable."
