Percy the snake trail a hit with young and old - with pictures and video
A community art project to help spread some positivity during lockdown has continued to grow and grow.
A painted rock called Percy the Perton Covid Cobra has become a resident of the entrance to Bluebell Woods in Perton, near the main road to the Pear and Partridge.
Since Percy first appeared on May 23, more than 1,000 painted stones and rocks have been added, with children and adults coming from around the area to add to the chain of rocks.
Creator Chris Hawthorne, a local artist, said she had come up with the idea after being inspired by a similar rock snake which she saw on Facebook.
She said: "I do a lot of painted rocks and leave them in the woods for people to find anyway, so I thought it would be a good idea to start one of these rock snakes in Perton.
"I started my own Facebook group called Percy the Perton Covid Cobra and asked if anyone would like to add their stones to Percy to see how far we could make it go.
"Within a few days, hundreds of rocks and stones had been put down and I must admit I'm flabbergasted by the response."
The 64-year-old said the project was a way to spread a little happiness during the lockdown period and to help children find something creative to do.
She said: "It was all about giving children something to do and to get out and about and get off their iPads.
"It's obviously quite difficult for mental health, being stuck in your house all the time, so I thought I'll try and get the kids out and about to do this.
"The reaction has been great from local people, with some many children and adults taking part, as well as a local school getting involved to paint rocks for Percy.
