Spider-man, Deadpool, Iron Man and Batman have been spotted out and about in the Black Country – but they're lifting spirits instead of fighting crime.

The people of Ashmore Park in Wolverhampton have eagerly reported sightings of the four superheroes walking around their streets.

The four men have been posing for pictures and waving to families as they walk by in full costume.

The activity started when the man dressed as Spider-man, who has asked to stay anonymous to preserve the mystery, received a call from a friend about his son's birthday.

He said: "My friend couldn't do anything for his son for his birthday, so I put on the costume to make sure he got a birthday cake and a card from Spiderman.

"After running home, my son told me it was all over social media that kids had seen Spider-man running up the street.

"From there, I got asked to go out the next day in the costume to make an appearance, wave to kids and do a lap of honour around the street."

'Spider-man' said the appearance then became a weekly lap of honour for the NHS and saw more people get involved in the walk.

He has set up a Facebook page under the name Peter Parker, which shows the reaction from the community to the walks, something he says is very overwhelming.

He said: "We see messages from the kids who say they can't sleep because they're so excited about seeing us each week, which inspires us to keep doing it.

'Amazing'

"When we're out on the walk, if a kid wants a photo, we'll stop and take one with them and we've personally wave to them if they want us to.

"It's all about the interactive experience for them and we do try and put on a bit of a show for them, as well doing birthday greetings.

"We do a lot of work for children with autism and Cerebral Palsy and to make their day by dressing up as superheroes is amazing."

The superheroes are also raising money for Birmingham Children's Hospital, with an aim of raising £5,000 to help the hospital charity on a Go Fund Me page.
