Wolverhampton Beer and Cider Festival cancelled due to Covid-19 outbreak
Wolverhampton's beer and cider festival has fallen victim to the spread of coronavirus.
The city branch for the Campaign for Real Ale announced via Twitter that it had taken the decision to cancel the festival in July, which was to have been held in Newhampton Arts Centre, as it was to close to the three-month exclusion for festivals set by Camra nationally.
"We are sorry to disappoint people but do believe that keeping people safe is more important," it said.
The branch has also announced the results of its pub of the year competition with the Lych Gate Tavern in Queen Square the winner.
The Keg and Comfort micropub in Stafford Road, Oxley, was runner-up and also won the cider pub of the year award.
Third was Hail to the Ale micropub in Pendeford Avenue, Claregate.
The branch country pub of the year is The Swan at Brewood and club of the Year is The Firs in Wood Road, Codsall
Following the directive from Camra nationally the branch have suspended all events and meetings including the presentation of the awards, which will be arranged for later in the year.
