Wolverhampton Literature Festival: Wolves star Carl Ikeme meets fans
Former Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme met with fans and signed copies of his book as part of the Wolverhampton Literature Festival.
The former gold and black hero wrote the book Why Not Me? as a detailed account of his life on and off the pitch – and how he dealt with his leukaemia diagnosis.
Club doctor Matt Perry broke the news to Carl back in 2017, with the shot-stopper being in "complete remission" a year later after a gruelling battle.
And now, as part of Wolverhampton's fourth Literature Festival, he has shared his thoughts on the team and what it means to be included in the city-wide event.
"I'm not too sure about that," the 33-year-old said when asked his thoughts on being a star attraction.
"But it's nice to be a part of it, it's not something I would have ever thought I would be a part of.
"It's nice to be be invited to take part, to do this signing, and I've really enjoyed it – it's nice to meet people.
"You're always a little worried whether people are actually going to turn up or not.
"But it's always nice to have a few conversations, see what people are up to."
A long line of people queued to meet Carl during his appearance at the city's Waterstones – with people taking selfies and photographs.
The goalkeeper was also joined by former head of Wolves' media Paul Berry, who he co-wrote the book with.
Carl also turned his hand to predicting the scoreline for tomorrow's match against Manchester United.
"I've said one-nil to Wolves – the lads are doing really well and it's always a tough game at United, but I'm always confident we can do it against any team," he added.
