HugglePets, which launched in 2019, aims to help motivate, inspire and empower members of the community through animal-related therapy and initiatives.

Residents are being invited to attend the tea and coffee mornings – and are given the opportunity to cuddle up to a wide range of animals, as well as making friends in the local area.

Through the use of animal therapy, HugglePets aim to work alongside individuals and groups within the community to improve mental health, combat loneliness and promote psychological well-being.

Pets at the centre include tortoises, bearded dragons, hamsters and guinea pigs.

Hannah Dixon, community projects manager, said: "The idea came about from our, director of Hugglepets CIC, Ian Dixon, he noticed the retail store running family fun days and that sparked the idea.

"We run these free tea and coffee mornings for people within the community to attend.

“It’s usually people with different mental health issues that come along and the idea is to give them a place to go to talk to people in the same or similar positions.”

HugglePets also opened their new on-site sensory aquarium and activity centre earlier this month.

The free tea and coffee mornings will be held monthly at the centre, in Cooper Street.
