Local poets to celebrate Wolverhampton venues in new literature fest partnership

Wolverhampton Literature Festival has partnered with Overhear for a new project.

The partnership will see newly commission poems written about 10 well-loved independent city venues.

The poems will be recorded and virtually 'pinned# to these sites for people to listen to, download and collect in their Overhear library.

Writers include Wolverhampton poet laureate Emma Purshouse, Ian Henery, and Kuli Kohli.

The venues providing inspiration include the Arena Theatre, The Light House Cinema, Wolverhampton Market, The Lych Gate Tavern, The Posada, Tony’s Deli and more.

The poems will begin to be released on January 26.

Overhear will also be delivering three weekend walking tours led by commissioned poets.

Jeff Phelps

Steve Pottinger, part of the Poets, Prattlers and Pandemonialists group, starts the series off on January 26.

Hannah Taylor, performance artist and curator, leads hers on February 1, and on February 2 Jeff Phelps, author of Wolverhampton Madonna, takes his tour.
