Wolverhampton and Bilston athletics club held its annual Turkey Trot, a five-mile run starting and ending at their home at Aldersley Stadium.

The run saw 430 runners of all abilities take on a road course through Pendeford and Bilbrook, with many taking the opportunity to run in fancy dress.

Every person who finished the run was given a free turkey as a prize, all supplied by event sponsors Avara Foods from Telford.

The event has been going for more than 40 years and has seen people such as former club president and broadcaster David Coleman take part.

Current president Mary Harding is the race director for the Turkey Trot and spoke about what it means to the club to be able to put the event on.

She said: "In the run up to Christmas, it's nice to be able to put this on as an annual event as people dress up and give it a nice atmosphere.

"It's very much part of our race calendar and is open to all members of the community, so it's nice to have had so many people taking part.

"I would have taken part myself today as I always feel like running, but I had a role to play as race director."

Mary also spoke about how taking up running can help with tackling the obesity issues in the country.

She said: "You never know where it might lead as people running today might take up running on a permanent basis.

"It's something which is really good for your physical and mental wellbeing.
