Secret Cinema event features space race
A film detailing the stories of black women working in the space race was the highlight of a cinema event.
The Arena Theatre at St Peter's School in Wolverhampton was the venue for the school's Secret Cinema event, an event organised as part of the school's celebrations of Black History Month.
The event saw around 250 people watch the film "Hidden Figures", a biographical drama film about black female mathematicians who worked at the NASA during the Space Race and the challenges they faced.
The event, which was the fourth time the school has held a secret cinema event, was opened by a speech by Wolverhampton South West MP Eleanor Smith, who stayed to watch the film with students and parents from the school.
Sonia Wilkes, Deputy Director of Pastoral at the school, spoke about the choice of film and how it fit in with Black History month.
She said: "We are always looking for films which can inspire anyone and we thought this was a good film to put on.
"We find that whenever there is a theme to the event, the pupils and parents have more interest in the films we show, so we always look for a suitable film to tie in with the theme of Black History month.
"We also hope that by having Eleanor Smith MP here today, she will be able to inspire the children as well."
