Wolverhampton Pride to return next month following postponement
Wolverhampton Pride is set to return next month after being postponed last year, it has been announced.
The free event will celebrate equality, diversity and the city’s LGBTQ+ community on Saturday October 12 in St Peter's Car Park off Wulfruna Street.
The main event, featuring DJs, food, bars, face painting and community stalls, runs from 3pm to 11pm, with fringe being held in the Civic Centre from 1pm till 4pm.
The first Wolverhampton Pride was held in 2012 and the last in 2017 included a performance from S Club.
A total of 1,004 people in the main tent took part in a 60-second Big Howl, rocketing themselves into the World Guinness Book of Records for the most number of people wolf howling continuously for a minute.
The event was set to return in October last year but was postponed just three weeks before it was set to take place.
At the time a spokesperson from the city's LGBT-plus alliance said they would not be putting on the event until they could deliver a celebration Wolverhampton 'could be proud of'.
In a statement released on its website, The city's LGBT-plus alliance said: "Wolves Pride has been postponed. We have not taken this decision lightly.
"As I am sure you can appreciate, Pride events take months of planning and considerable resourcing, not just in terms of money, but also in terms of people’s time and expertise.
"Having reviewed our plans for this year’s event, we feel it is appropriate to postpone the event until next year to enable us to deliver a Pride celebration that the people of Wolverhampton deserve and can be proud of.
"Preparations for Pride 2019 are already underway. Thank you for your continued support and we hope to see you next year, if not sooner at one of our other events."
