East Park in Wolverhampton will be transformed into a sea of inflatable obstacles on September 15, when hundreds of fundraisers take party in the charity 5km.

The event sees participants blasted with an array of coloured powder at various intervals along the route whilst tackling inflatable obstacles – a new element for 2019.

Over the years more than £170,000 has been raised through the popular run.

Event organiser Dawn Smith said: “The Compton Care Colour Blast 5k is always a really popular event and we’re delighted to have raised an extraordinary £171,027.58 over the last four years that we’ve been hosting it thanks to our incredible supporters. This would fund the equivalent of 219 days care for patients staying on our Inpatient Unit.

“This year we want to add to this total and see hundreds of people taking part once again to raise money so that we can continue to offer our services for people living with complex and incurable conditions across Wolverhampton and the Black Country. Seeing so many people taking part and knowing that they’re all here to support the work we do is very uplifting.

“East Park will be an explosion of colour on September 15, the atmosphere is always brilliant with lots of fun and laughter and this year’s event will be no different. We’re looking forward to welcoming lots of individuals, friends and families to the park for some colourful fun next month.”

The event is sponsored by Western Power Distribution who have a team of 30 employees taking part in the event, whilst 15 staff from Wolverhampton’s Primark store are also being sponsored to join in the fun.

Those taking part in this year’s event are encouraged to dress up in wigs, tutus and brightly coloured clothing to walk, jog and run the 5k around the park.

Local business owners are asked to get in touch with Compton’s Fundraising Team to have a stall at the event in exchange for a donation to the charity. There will also be children’s fairground rides on the day as well as a compere providing entertainment.

The event starts at 8:30am and once everyone has crossed the finish line there will be a ‘colour party’ at approximately 11:45am where participants are invited to head into the colour blast arena and given sachets of powder paint to throw at each other and into the air.
