GALLERY: Off they trot for a prize turkey
Hundreds of runners laced up their shoes as they braved the frosty morning chill for the city's annual Turkey Trot.
More than 250 contestants dodged icy patches scattered across the 5 mile-route before taking home a prized frozen turkey after the race.
It was the 35th year Wolverhampton and Bilston Athletics Club hosted the pre-Christmas race to gather funds for its activities.
Club president Mary Harding said: "This year is the first in a long time where we were actually able to give out whole turkeys. It was great, the turkeys were lovely.
"This race gives people a nice little run and also gathers income for the club. It's a Christmas present for us this year.
"We are self-funded, all of the people here are volunteers, and everything goes back into the club.
"The club was 50-years-old last year, it has been going for so long and we need to keep it going.
"People must keep active - there are so many people that can't exercise and don't.
"We hope we bring people into he club, some people who have never run before, and especially ladies who think they could never have done something like this."
Runners from across the region donned their festive-themed attire before setting off from Aldersley Leisure Village after making their way around the track.
They then pounded the city's streets before returning to the stadium for the final leg of the race.
Every participant walked away with a frozen turkey ready for Christmas Day after Telford-based event sponsor Avara Foods made a mass donation.
Jonny Morris, who joined the athletics club a year ago, was the first to cross the finish line on Sunday morning.
The 26-year-old engineer, who lives in Wightwick, said: "I'm very happy to bring it home for the club and win a home race.
"Being a club race, I wanted to support it. It was nice to see how much progress I have made in a year."
