Wolverhampton Light House offers free tickets to film lovers
An independent cinema in Wolverhampton is offering free tickets to film-lovers in a bid to get more people through the doors.
Light House will offer film fans a chance to catch the latest movies for free on Sunday, September 30, as part of National Lottery Cinema Day.
To celebrate its support for British film, the National Lottery is giving away thousands of free tickets at participating cinemas across the UK.
Audience members need to show a Lotto ticket for draws between September 26 and 29 September to receive a free cinema ticket for any film showing that day.
Tickets for the screenings are only available on the day from Light House’s box office and only issued on a first come, first served basis. You need to be over 16 years old to get a free ticket. The cinema will be showing The Little Stranger and King of Thieves that day.
Light House, based in Wolverhampton’s historic Chubb buildings, features a cinema, cafe bar and galleries.
The venue shows current films, streamed live theatre and hosts community events.
But it has been struggling ever since it lost a council subsidy in 2015 worth £73,000 a year.
So bosses are doing all they can to get sales up, and to get more people involved.
Chief executive Kelly Jeffs said staff had been told they were a ‘lifeline’ to many people.
The cinema has achieved a 12 per cent increase in admissions during the past year.
However, with the loss of public funding and cultural grants, this does not cover costs.
The cinema was named Community Contributor of the Year at the Wolverhampton Independent Retail Excellence (WIRE) Awards last month.
