Ooh la la! Bilston dancer is Moulin Rouge star
She grew up in the shadow of Wolverhampton’s iconic Grand Theatre.
But now Bilston dancer Jessica Till has made it to the bright lights of Paris after landing a starring role with the world’s most famous cabaret.
Jessica has made it to the mythical stage of the Moulin Rouge and has quickly settled down in the French capital city after moving there in April.
The 19-year-old has become a showgirl after dazzling show bosses with her flawless dance technique.
The performer said she was thrilled and had grown up dreaming of featuring in the greatest show on earth.
“When I saw the movie Moulin Rouge from Baz Luhrmann for the first time I fell in love with the cabaret,” Jessica said.
“I then discovered the show and automatically knew that it was what I wanted to do. Dancing has always been the thing I enjoyed most since I was a child, and as a first job, it’s a dream come true.
“I love the French Cancan, it is so much fun to watch and perform because the energy on stage and in the audience is so high.”
The former Moseley Park School student said she was ‘amazed’ when she found out she had got the part, after being in love with dance ever since first starting at Dance Xtreme in Wolverhampton, at the age of eight.
She only had one month between finding out she had been successful, and moving to a brand new country to begin her year long contract.
Jessica said: “Doing this, it’s something you see as your end goal, something you work towards, yet it’s my first job. It’s just amazing, it’s crazy.
“It’s been so brilliant. My goal now is to travel as much as I can while dancing – I’d love to go somewhere like the Caribbean one day.”
The big move to France has been a bit of a challenge for the Bilston teen, as she admitted she does not speak a word of French.
Jessica added: “My French is so bad. But I managed to speak to a few of the other girls before coming here after finding them on Facebook, and luckily a lot of them are English.
“I moved to Manchester three years ago so I was used to being away from home but obviously it’s completely different moving to another country.”
Jessica said her parents, grandparents and 21-year-old brother back home in Bilston are all supporting her wholeheartedly from across the Channel.
Bosses at the Moulin Rouge say the teenager has been the perfect fit and has been a beautiful addition to the show.
They added that she had brought a high degree of professionalism and great skills, having trained at Northern Ballet School in Manchester.
The Moulin Rouge was created in 1889 and has a cast of 60 artists who come from 14 different countries.
Jessica was given four weeks of intensive rehearsal sessions to learn all the choreography and master the French Cancan and she is now performing 12 times a week in the current show, Féerie.
Féerie is a two-hour show with 1,000 costumes of feathers, rhinestones and sequins.
There are shimmering colours, a 60 tonne-water aquarium and the famous French Cancan. The show is watched by 600,000 spectators every year from all around the world.
