The Light House, located in the city’s former Chubb Lock Factory, could face closure unless a partner or major sponsor can be found.

Bosses have issued a call for help from local businesses and have now launched a scheme where members of the public can step in and help.

The plan comes in the form of loyalty cards, which are available to pick up from the venue from Thursday.

Marketing manager Julie Homfray said the new scheme was a way for people to support their cinema, while also having a fun and enjoyable time.

She said: “We’d like people to visit once a month, for the next 12 months – and if they see a film and buy a drink they’ll get a stamp.

“Even if all the people who ‘Like’ us on Facebook do that, that would keep us going. All the little things do add up.

“After the 12 months are up we’ll do a party to show we’ve achieved another year – and invite all the people who’ve had these cards.”

The Light House team have ordered 5,000 loyalty cards ready to give out on launch day, and hope as many people as possible will take advantage of the scheme.

Since losing its public funding several years ago the cultural venue has drastically changed its business plan, cutting costs to a minimum and broadening its range of commercial films.

It offers two cinema screens, two galleries, a cafe bar and indoor courtyard.

Julie added: “People can donate too when they pick up a card, if they’d like. We just want to get a conversation going, and get help over these next few weeks – as it’ll be so crucial.

“We just want to say come and see a film, have a glass of wine, have fun with it. It needs to happen now, but we don’t want to be miserable about it.”
