The sun was shining for the 5k colour run around the city's East Park, which saw those taking part blasted with an array of colourful powder in Compton Care's fourth Colour Blast fundraiser.

East Park became an explosion of colour

The event was opened by Compton Care patient Brenda Gibbons from Wednesfield who attends the charity’s Day Therapies Centre once a week. She addressed the crowd with a moving speech thanking all of the runners for taking part.

She said: “My outlook on cancer has changed with Compton’s help. I’ve got a much more positive outlook on life thanks to them. With Compton, you’re not alone, they are only a phone call away.

“Thank you to everyone taking part today from everyone at Compton as well as from myself and families and friends of those who Compton cares for.”

Five-year-old Chloe Murray gives the event a thumbs up

Those taking part dressed up in wigs, tutus and brightly coloured clothing to walk, jog and run the 5k surrounded by their family and friends.

Event Organiser Vicki Wootton said: “We are thrilled that so many people joined us for our fourth Compton Colour Blast 5k. We were the first to bring this type of event to Wolverhampton and we are pleased that people are continuing to support us year on year by taking part.

Hundreds of fundraisers enjoyed the sun

“Everyone really enjoyed the day, the sun was shining and so many people dressed up in vibrant bright colours.

"Everyone who took part has helped to raise money to help us fund quality care for patients who have been diagnosed with an incurable illness, and their families and we are so incredibly grateful for their support.”

The charity, who specialise in helping people with complex and incurable diseases, has raised more than £70,000 with their recent events, including their Spring Sunflower appeal that saw hundreds of purple sunflower sculptures planted in the grounds of Compton Hall.
