Items to catch the eye at next auction
A rare designer handbag, unusual plates and a rare marble bust of a politician are among the items to go under the hammer at an upcoming auction.
Bridgnorth's Perry and Phillips Auctioneers are holding their bi-monthly sale of antiques and collectables on February 6.
And among the items on sale set to attract the bidders is a ‘cage bag’, which was made in the 1980s by top Italian designer Salvatore Ferragamo.
The handbag is estimated to sell for between £250 and £350 during the auction, which takes place at the Perry and Phillips saleroom in Mill Street, Low Town.
Perry and Phillips auctioneer John Ridgway said: “This is a very unusual handbag, we’ve never seen one before in the saleroom and our research shows very few for sale anywhere,”
“This is a rare opportunity to buy a superb designer bag for a very good price and we’re expecting a good deal of interest!"
Coalport plates, manufactured in 1834 and painted by Jessie Mountford, will also be sold by Perry and Phillips Auctioneers.
The plates are estimated to sell for between £100 to £200 during the auction.
While the bust of eminent Georgian politician Charles James Fox, which was found in a garden in Halesowen and brought into the Phillips saleroom for valuation.
The bust is estimated to sell for between £500 and £800.
“These plates are unusual and really lovely, in very good condition for their age,” said Mr Ridgway.
“We’re expecting some very healthy biddings from collectors of fine Coalport pieces.
He added: “The bust was an amazing find and, despite having spent some time outdoors, it is in excellent condition.
“It was made by the famous portrait sculptor Joseph Nollekin, who was regarded as the finest British sculptor of his time.
“George Fox was a very colourful character, a supporter of the French Revolution and a determined opponent of the slave trade – he was portrayed by actor Michael Gambon in the popular film Amazing Grace.”
The sale runs from 10.30am and viewing is during the weekend and on the Monday immediately beforehand.
