The Enjoy Wolverhampton ‘Visit the City’ summer programme includes a Discover Dinosaurs Exhibition at Bilston Craft Gallery in Mount Pleasant, Bilston.

The free event is running from July 6 to July 8, and again between July 13 and July 15.

The venue is open from noon to 4pm each day and visitors can look at fossil evidence and explore some of the creatures that lived in the oceans at the same time as dinosaurs roamed the land.

Meanwhile the Wolves Museum, at Molineux Stadium, is holding an open day on July 7 with free entry on offer between 11am and 4pm.

And Wolverhampton Art Gallery has a wealth of free exhibitions which are also being promoted as part of the summer programme.

The gallery is open Monday to Saturday, 10.30am to 4.30pm, and on Sundays between 11am and 4pm.

The Lichfield Street gallery is also the venue for Lunchtime Tuesday talks with expert curators on hand to tell people about its collections and temporary exhibitions.

On July 11 there will be a specific talk on ‘Postcards from Abroad’.

Councillor John Reynolds, City of Wolverhampton Council Cabinet Member for City Economy, said: “The Discover Dinosaurs exhibition has already attracted hundreds of visitors and is just one example of the first-class exhibitions staged in the City of Wolverhampton.

“The summer Visit the City programme gives people the opportunity to take advantage of a host of free and purse-friendly events.

“It is a great way to sample the best of the city’s culture and visit places you might not normally think of visiting.

“We are really excited about this year’s programme. It is a great initiative showcasing our great city.”

Several of Wolverhampton's popular attractions were subject to revised opening hours earlier this year.

Plans revealed last August would have seen the Grade-II listed Bantock House closed from Monday to Friday.

But Wolverhampton council later confirmed that the museum would remain open between 11am and 5pm in the summer.

The authority also revised its proposed changes to opening hours at Bilston Craft Gallery and the city archives following feedback at public meetings and from more than 700 people through an online survey.

It had been proposed to close the gallery between Monday and Friday, but it was later announced it would open between noon and 4pm on Thursday and Friday.
