Sara Cox on The Royal Wedding, Love In The Countryside and her fondness of the 80s ahead of Birmingham event

The 43-year-old Bolton star will host the Just Can't Get Enough 80s show at Digbeth's O2 Institute tomorrow - and says she wants people to watch Harry and Meghan's ceremony during the day, then continue the festivities with her into the early hours.

"I will be playing an 80s festival down south then making my way to Birmingham so I imagine I will have to listen to radio coverage on the M1," says the mother of three.

"I want people to have a royal knees up at home then come and continue the celebrations with me."

The Royal Wedding will take place today at at St George’s Chapel in the grounds of Windsor Castle, where Prince Harry was christened. The service will begin at midday.

When asked about her thoughts on royal affairs, the DJ and model says she 'loves' them.

"William is great vibes," adds Sara.

"And he is a brilliant patron of Centrepoint, the homeless charity I’m an ambassador for."

Sara, who previously presented a Sounds of The 80s show on Radio 2, moved to a nightly show on the station on May 14, running from 10pm till midnight from Monday to Thursday - but says she will continue to play tunes from the era which she has previously described as 'the best decade'.

Since hosting her new radio show, Sara has spoken to a number of guests - including Wolverhampton's very own Beverley Knight on May 15 to discuss her upcoming support slot on Quincy Jones' one-off concert at London's O2 Arena next month on June 27, which will mark the jazz icon turning 85 this year. Other stars set to play the show include Caro Emerald, Jess Glynne, Lalah Hathaway, Mick Hucknall, Jonah Nilsson, Mark Ronson, Jack Savoretti and Andreas Varady.

Others who have starred on Sara's new show include The Mash Report's Ellie Taylor, film reviewer Rhianna Dhillon, and actress Hannah Arterton.

"I will always play 80s songs on my show and will continue to speared the 80s love with Just Can't Get Enough 80s," she says.

"There’s such a broad variety of great music from the 80s, from pop to new romantics, disco hangover, to indie, to dance, to R 'n' B, to the beginnings of Madchester.

"I recently played on an 80s cruise ship and the vast majority of people had done all their snogging, dancing, heartbreak, falling in and out of love during the 80s; so it holds so many memories. However we also had a gang of 19-year-old girls who loved my nights too - there's such a good groove to 80s tunes."

When asked if she had any tales about meeting 80s icons, Sara said she often sees ABC's Martin Fry, as he lives near her.

"I love ABC’s album Lexicon of Love and Martin Fry lives near me," she explains.

"I often see him down the pet shop or at the hairdressers. He’s totally sorted."

And her favourite acts from the era?

"Whitney, always Whitney. I love Prince, Belinda Carlise, George Michael/Wham! and Frankie Goes to Hollywood," she adds.

Looking ahead to tonight's Birmingham show, Sara says fans should prepare for 'a journey back to the 80s'.

"Fans need to buckle up to ride a rollercoaster of emotions - joy, excitement, nostalgia," says the DJ.

"They need to be ready to dance, laugh, scream (in a good way) and sing a long to all the best 80s tunes."

In addition to raising three kids and hosting her Radio 2 show, Sara has also been on TV screens across the nation presenting rural dating show Love In The Countryside on BBC 2, helping lonely country folk find love.

She herself got married for the second time back in the summer of 2013 to 42-year-old advertising executive Ben Cyzer.

Last year was also a busy one for Sara, with her hosting a 24-hour Danceathon for Comic Relief 2017 and covering the Manchester One Love tribute concert.

Love In The Countryside has seen Sara return to 'her farming roots', says the BBC, pairing up people of many walks of life - from dairy farmers to rural vets, farriers, to pig breeders.

"It's a brilliant show with a really good, kind heart," gushes Sara.

"It's funny and touching, and highlights how isolated rural folk can be. I love it.

"It was so much fun because I’m really at home on a farm but it was also distracting - I just wanted to cuddle calves the whole time."

Sara Cox presents Just Can't Get Enough 80s runs from 9pm to 1am tomorrow.

Tickets for the over-18s-only night out cost £17.50 each. A group ticket offer, for which a minimum of 10 must be bought, sees the entry price reduced to £15.
