Brownhills canal festival set to be cancelled
Brownhills's annual canal festival has been plunged into doubt after organisers failed to sort anything in time.
Brian Stringer and the rest of the Brownhills Local Committee normally organise the event each year, but because of age the committee had left the responsibility to the local area partnership.
However after Diane Mansell, the head of the Brownhills partnership, moved on from her role nothing has been organised in time.
Mr Stringer said the council might still organise something for the town centre but that, for this year at least, the committee was not involved.
He said: "The local committee was getting a bit old and long in the tooth do it ourselves so we thought the organisation would be taken over by the area partnership. However the lady who run it has left and it has not been possible to organise anything in time. We tried to do something but it was just not possible.
"We might bring it back next year if we get the support we need.
"All the committee is getting near our 80s now and unfortunately the festival is just a lot of work.
"The council did say they may still put something on but it will not be anything to do with the committee."
The festival is normally held around the end of June.
