Auditions will be held for roles, including the lead role of Annie, in the show, which will be staged by Bilston Operatic Society. Performers are being invited to show off their talents at auditions at Tettenhall College, in Wood Road, Wolverhampton on March 24.

Sue Turner, a committee member of Bilston Operatic Company for 46 years, said the lead role would be a test for any young starlet, due to the range of qualities they would need to show in voice and talent.

She said: "The role is that of an orphan who is taken in by someone with lots of money and gives her a chance. She's got to be a bit cheeky, quirky and uncouth –so she's got a lot of different qualities. And ideally she's got to be able to sing and dance a bit as well.

"We're looking at girls who can play a convincing 11-year-old because it says in the script at one point she is 11."

The company's run of Annie will be at Wolverhampton's Grand Theatre, in Lichfield Street, from November 5 to 9.

Anyone interested in auditioning for the show should attend Tettenhall College from 9am to 1pm on March 24.

Bilston Operatic Company performs two shows a year, including a summer concert held in May and their main performance which is held at the Grand Theatre every November.

All proceeds from shows are given to local charities.
