Bewitching play at revamped theatre
A Staffordshire theatre is to plunge audience members into another world this weekend as it stages its first production after a major £52,000 revamp.
Sir Terry Pratchett's comedy Wyrd Sisters has been adapted for the stage by Stephen Briggs from the novel in the acclaimed Discworld series.
The show is being performed on Friday and Saturday night at the Rugeley Rose Theatre by Hednesford-based drama group Tower Players. Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 7.30pm.
The action takes place in a remote mountain kingdom, with a plot that has echoes of Macbeth but with laughs. It tells the story of an evil duke who assumes the throne after killing his cousin, and the attempts of three witches to return the dead king's son, and rightful heir, to the throne, even though he is still only a baby.
The Rugeley Rose Theatre and community hall has been refurbished over the past 12 months thanks to a £52,000 grant from the Coalfields Regeneration Trust.
Formed in 2006, Tower Players have presented a host of shows from serious drama and panto to self-penned musicals, comedy and farce and often work with a strong local theme such as mining and the military camps on the Chase. The group has also twice taken part in the Lichfield Mysteries. In Wyrd Sisters, the group will be joined by young actors from local theatre school TrEAD.
Tower Players meet every Thursday in term time at Blake Valley Technology College, Marston Road, in Hednesford, between 7.30pm and 9pm.
More information and tickets are available from The Rose Theatre Box Office, in Taylors Lane, Rugeley, or on 01889 584306. Tickets for the performance costs £7 for adults and £6 for concessions, including under 16s and pensioners.
