Seasons Theatre Company, based in Hamptons Street, has been awarded £1,000 by Persimmon Homes West Midlands through its Community Champions scheme.

Each month the housebuilder donates up to £1,000 each to two groups or individuals in the local area.

The theatre group, which has been running for six years, offers people with Autism, Asperger’s, learning difficulties and mental health conditions a chance to perform in a theatre environment. They also organise social activities for members and a short break once a year.

Paul Jones, who applied for the funding on behalf of the Seasons Theatre Company, said: "The donation will go towards the funding of future productions and let the group continue its great work.

"We find that members benefit because it helps to reduce social isolation, increases self-esteem and helps them make friends and realise what they can achieve through performance.

"We are totally self-funding and rely on volunteers to support our weekly rehearsals and performances, so we are very grateful to Persimmon Homes West Midlands for its support."

David Greengrass, head of sales for Persimmon Homes West Midlands, said: "We are delighted to support Seasons Theatre Company.

"If people were unsuccessful last month, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next community champion."
