The Grinch brings festive spirit to Birmingham's Alexandra Theatre - review
“Are you having a holly, jolly Christmas?”
If you’re not quite in the festive spirit just yet, a quick visit to The Alexandra in Birmingham to watch ‘How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical’ will certainly have you dreaming of mince pies, mulled wine, and Santa Claus.
Based on the beloved Dr Seuss tale, this musical production starring the ghastly, green Grinch is funny, silly, and heart-warming.
It’s the perfect, festive treat for the whole family, with catchy songs, colourful costumes, and plenty of laughter.
Jump into the whimsical world of Whoville, where Max the dog narrates the story of the scheming Grinch who decides to steal Christmas away from the Whos, an endlessly joyful bunch bursting with holiday cheer.
The show features the songs You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch and Welcome Christmas.
Edward Baker-Duly starred as the grumpy Grinch - and had both young and old in fits of laughter with his comic facial expressions, quippy one-liners, and obvious lack of festive cheer.
But it was his Grinch costume which was the most impressive - this big, hairy green creature certainly stood out of stage amongst the candy-cane colours of the twee Whos, and the fluffy brown get-up of Max the dog, played by X-Factor champion Matt Terry.
The audience followed the Grinch as he stuffed Christmas trees up chimneys, stole presents, and discarded huge roasts dinners - so none of Whosville could enjoy Christmas.
But he wasn’t counting on meeting little Cindy Lou, played on this night by the talented young Isla Gie, who warmed his heart on Christmas Eve.
Suddenly the Grinch, whose heart was “two sizes too small” was now bursting out of his chest.
‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical’ is a sparkling holiday delight - it’ll leave you feeling warm, cheerful and more Christmassy than ever.
A joy for both adults and children - it’s not one you’ll want to miss this festive season.
The show runs until Saturday, December 7.
