Doreen has released new children's book The Giant Panteater and Other Curious Creatures

The Giant Panteater and other Curious Creatures is an illustrated book filled with poems to accompany fantasy creatures created by the self-proclaimed 'lazy cow' herself.

“I wanted to see if a local wench can take on the might of David Walliams,” said Doreen.

“It will be interesting to see how far beyond the Black Country the book can travel and gain acceptance.”

Among the curious creatures is a hippo with canary wings, a llama made from spare parts, jigsaw sheep, bees on skis who love the winter, a baboon that can float, a snake that’s 600 miles long, and the mysterious Muck-Filled Rattypus.

Many of the stories include moral messages covering issues such as bullying, not judging people by how they look, following your dream, working together and more.

The book also includes a themed quiz, so children can test how much they can remember about the creatures within.

The new book comes in two editions – Cool and Extra Cool. The Extra Cool version is unique one-off produced specially for each child, bearing their photograph and a special gift message.

Strictly star Debbie McGee was one of the first to declare her verdict on the book, stating: “Doreen has found a way to bring intelligent humour to children in an educating but entertaining way. I couldn’t put it down. It’s fabulous in every way.”

The book builds on Doreen's already successful career, that has seen her invited to star in Birmingham Hippodrome's Snow White and The Seven Dwarves this year.
